Eagle Lake Group Homes
Philosophy
The Philip Blanchette Youth Home and the Winterville Boys Group Home are located in Eagle Lake and Winterville, Maine. Together, known as the Eagle Lake Group Homes, each home has a six-bed capacity and accepts youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. The length of stay for the boys in these programs varies depending on their treatment needs.

The boys in these programs are active participants in the teaching and learning that occurs. The youth is not merely told how to behave; he learns positive behaviors and how to choose to use them in many different situations. This empowerment approach combines the active participation of the youth with the active teaching of the staff. The strength of this approach lies in its ability to teach children positive self-help skills and assist them in building healthy relationships with others, enabling intrinsic changes.
The Philip Blanchette Youth Home and the Winterville Boys Group Home contract with the Maine Family Home Program, a third-party agency that monitors the quality of services provided in the homes. This agency assures quality of services in the homes through a process of staff training, consultation, observation, and feedback that includes interviews of youths and other consumers.
Treatment Plan
Through individualized treatment, the youths are taught new ways of interacting with their parents, teachers, friends, and others in the community. Skills focus on several areas important to youths: social skills, academic skills, independent living skills, family-living skills, community-living skills, and, in the Winterville Boys Group Home, substance abuse education and counseling.
Philip Blanchette Youth Home
The Philip Blanchette Youth Home utilizes 24-hour awake staff, which allows for placement of higher risk youth and provides quality treatment for boys with challenging behaviors. The highly-trained staff provide a community-based program which integrates the youth back into the community prior to their discharge, allowing the youth to generalize the use of their skills across various settings.
Winterville Boys Group Home
The Winterville Boys Group Home provides similar services and serves a similar population to that of the Philip Blanchette Youth Home, but specializes in treatment for adolescent boys with substance abuse issues. Also community-based, the comprehensive treatment provided by this program includes education, substance abuse counseling, social skills, and independent living training.
Program Goals
Youths residing at the Eagle Lake group homes deserve the highest quality of care. We believe that by providing a comprehensive individualized plan for the care, treatment, and education of a youth, and through the use of community resources, these youths will be successful in returning to the community with either their biological, adoptive, or foster families, or to independent living situations.
